Posted: Sunday 13th of April 2008 St Nicholas Church, Kilcorney, was full to capacity on Easter Sunday morning to witness his Eminence Cardinal William Levada (Perfect of the congregation of the Faith in the Vatican) and third in line to Pope Benedict, celebrating the morning mass. Cardinal Levada whose great great grandmother emigrated to the U.S.A. in 1865, was on a brief visit to meet some of his relatives in South Horsemount, Kilcorney. Fr. William Winter, P.P. Banteer, welcomed his Eminence to Kilcorney saying that it was a great honour for the people of the community to have the Cardinal celebrate mass on Easter Sunday morning. Also present for the occasion were the Duhallow Choral Society who had previously met the Cardinal in Rome. At the end of mass, local man Paddy O' Sullivan spoke words of welcome on behalf of the community. Afterwards, Cardinal Levada took some time to visit the family grave in the adjoining cemetry and subsequently joined the congregation in the local community centre where refreshments were served before moving on to visit the family home in South Horsemount. The community wishes Cardinal Levada a safe journey back to Rome. Permalink | Display comment(s) |
